I had an initial meeting with one of the younger lawyers, to discuss my case. During this meeting, she informed me of her hourly rate. However, after the meeting, I received an engagement letter that included a completely different fee structure. This new model stated that her work might require supervision, which would increase the hourly rate by 70%—a significant detail that was never mentioned in our meeting. If I had known about this additional cost beforehand, I would never have booked the appointment.
After rejecting the engagement, I was surprised to receive an invoice charging me for 3.5 hours of work, despite not agreeing that the initial consultation pre-engagement was billable. When I questioned this, the firm insisted that it had been communicated to me, which was not the case. Now, they are pressuring me to pay this unjustified amount.
This experience has left me feeling misled and unfairly treated. Be cautious when dealing with this firm, and make sure to clarify all potential fees upfront to avoid surprises.
